OUR GRANITE

Strong, durable, and hard. The granite that we use is sourced from the Rock of Ages quarry located in Barre, Vermont which is known for its superior quality granite. This unique and elegant natural stone is one of the oldest rocks found on Earth. It’s remarkable strength and consistency allows it to be carved with intricate detail that will last hundreds of years producing the finest statuary & memorial granites monuments. Large slabs of granite are cut from the walls of the quarry and sent to the monument vendor. Once there the granite is re-cut, polished and hand crafted. Once it is finished, the monument is carefully crated and ready to be sent to us for installation in the cemetery.

SHAPE AND DESIGNS

UPRIGHT – Upright monuments, often called headstones, are the most traditional form of memorial and the most recognized. They stand in an upright position, set perpendicular to the base and are distinguished by the lettered tablet with the family name engraved into the face of the stone. The larger surface of this monument can accommodate traditional and personalized designs. They are available as single, companion or family headstone. The top of an upright monument is usually serpentine, oval or straight. The lower part of the monument, the base typically has a polished top and rocky sides.

SLANTS – This resembles an upright granite headstone but it is not tall enough to be considered an upright. Slants have an inclined or tilted face which can have an engraving of the family name or a place where a bronze plaque can be attached. They have a taller back and a lower front. Slant markers are rectangular in shape and come in a variety of sizes and colors. The top can be straight, rounded or serpentine and can be mounted on a base or directly on the foundation like a wedge.

GRASS MARKERS – This is a term to describe memorials that are flush with the ground with no base. Some prefer cemetery markers but in some instances a cemetery may require them for aesthetics. Easy to maintain, grass markers are durable, long-lasting, and available in a variety of sizes and styles, but it has a smaller surface that will limit the engravable service area.

BEVEL – This is a low marker, with a slightly tilted face where the back of the stone is a few inches higher than the front making it a bit easier to read. They are thicker than grass markers. For various reasons, there are times when simple is better. Perhaps your family plot has a large stone with family name on it and individual graves are marked with smaller markers.

BRONZE PLAQUE – These markers feature polished, engraved, and even sculpted bronze faceplates set on a beautiful granite marker. Families choose bronze for its versatility and durability. They can be displayed indoors or outside. Some cemeteries require bronze grave markers, while some may find the rich, stately patina that forms on bronze over time very desirable. They can be installed on their own or on a larger piece of granite. Bronze plaques can also be used to memorialize an event or be attached on an upright, slant or a bevel.

MEMORIAL BENCH – This creates a serene and contemplative setting around the final resting place of your loved ones.  Like other monuments, they can be engraved, etched and customized.  They can be used as stand-alone alternative for traditional monuments or they can be placed in conjunction with them.  Benches are also an excellent choice for parks or other public places where you would want to memorize an event or perhaps a civic group.

COLUMBARIUMS – These are above ground structures designed to hold a loved ones cremated remains. Memorialization choices are not limited and can be highly personalized. Today, many people who choose cremation prefer above ground memorialization.

CUSTOM DESIGNS – With advances in technology and equipment, manufacturers have the ability to produce custom shapes and sizes to create the perfect monument. Did your loved one have a cherished hobby, career, or talent? Is a traditional headstone just not enough? There are a vast amount of sizes, shapes, colors, and styles that will certainly commemorate your life or honor a loved one’s life.

CIVIC MONUMENTS – We are not limited to designing and installing monuments for the deceased.  We also create incredibly long lasting, beautiful and sophisticated monuments for business and industrial purposes.  Industrial and public parks, hospitals, and historical sites are just a few examples of places where a bronze or granite signage may be installed to convey the prestige you desire that will endure the test of time.

SERVICES & ACCESSORIES

Cleaning
Over many years monuments become dirty from the elements, birds, or mildew from shady or damp places and need a cleaning.  Cleaning will preserve the life of the monument restoring it to a nearly new appearance.
ENGRAVING
Many monuments are placed in cemeteries before their time of need and when a loved one has passed you will want to engrave their date of passing. Perhaps you have decided that you would like to add a bible verse, poem or an emblem design to remember them by.
INCENSE BURNERS
The burners are attached to the base of a monument. It provides a place to burn paper-based offerings or to burn incense graveside. Incense is burned to encourage relaxation, concentration and motivation. Incense is used in a vast number of religions and is often associated with cleansing and gratitude.
MY LIFE MEMORIAL
Imagine being able to use your phone to scan this memorial and see your loved one’s story or read tributes left by other family members and friends. It holds an unlimited number of photos, audio recordings, written messages and videos. You can share a link with family and friends. Anyone can scan the bar code located on the monument itself to view existing tributes or to add their own.
PORCELAIN PHOTOS
These are glass-like and usually encased in a bronze frame with covers that can be used in outdoor applications providing a beautiful picture that will never fade or crack. Traditionally, a headstone just contains names, dates, and maybe a verse so it is hard to imagine the life beyond letters and numbers. A headstone with a porcelain photo gives you a real sense of the person and the legacy they left behind.
VASES
Vases add elegance and thoughtfulness to a memorial. Without a vase people don’t have a place to leave fresh flowers for their loved one. They can be placed on the base in various locations as long as the dimensions of the base allows for it. You can have a vase on either side or just a single one. Vases come in many colors and shapes. It is typically made to match the color of the granite stone.
TABS
Little plaques or tabs can be added to honor a loved one. Popular tabs include things that say ‘Beloved Mother’ or ‘Beloved Husband’ just to name a few.
SCROLLS
Date scrolls are often added to the bronze plaque when someone has passed and their date of death needs to be added to the memorial.
